Nikon D4 Repair Experience – June 2012

So, I figured I would start a blog entry of the (so far) short life of my D4 and its repair experience.  I am not a member of their “professional” service, just a guy who spent a lot of money on a camera body.   I will update this as the experience unfolds.  Hopefully it will not grow too long!  As background, I got the camera April 30 and a couple weeks later, a CF pin bent with a brand new card.  I limped along on XQD only for a couple weeks and then was able to take it for service.

Update: I’ve got the camera back.  The gory details come in after the cut… read more if you wish!

June 2012 Bouts

So here are the bouts from June.  Another busy month; Arch Rival went off to Brewhaha and I went with them.  A new venue this year, a step above the old venue as it’s not in the middle of nowhere and was an actual athletic facility.  Brew City is movin’ on up!  And ARRG did the “unthinkable” (which we all knew was really totally thinkable) by dismantling Detroit for the first time.  ARRG is movin’ on up too!  Other highlights included the St. Louis debut of the Chicago Bruise Brothers, who came down to take on the B-Keepers before the Dallas Deception took on the GateKeepers.  Earlier in the month, as luck would have it, the Carolina Wrecking Brawls showed up to take on the B-Keepers too.  Neither team was successful in their attempts to keep any bees.

May 2012 bouts…

I’m perpetually behind on this, but here are some photos from May 2012.  May was interesting; it saw ARRG bring some old friends from Bleeding Heartland into town, Spring Roll (covered separately in another post), and some local league play for the boys.  And finally, the debut of a new local league serving newer skaters and the east side of the area: Confluence Crush Roller Derby.

Hey everyone, I went to Spring Roll and all I got was a ton of photos.  I didn’t get all of day 2 and I didn’t get a ton from all 22 bouts, but I did get some nice ones.

Follow this post for more Spring Roll commentary as I unpack all the shots I took and clean some of them up, but for instant gratification you can go here:

…and sometimes you get the horns (first bout with the Nikon D4)

So, I bought the Nikon D4 last week.  Compared to what I had been shooting, this is like a Lamborghini… in the sense that I know it’s better than what I had, it can do more than what I had, and when I figure it out it’ll be way more impressive than what I had.  Except right now, I can barely get it in gear or park it.  So I decided last night that I would shoot the whole bout with it.  Get the high frame rate burning out of my head, figure out how it works, etc.

I am not impressed with myself (the camera is awesome) but I learned a lot.  My thanks, and apologies, to ARRG and Bleeding Heartland for being unwitting guinea pigs and probably not getting results up to my usual standards. :)

Today’s post is about the Arch Rival Roller Girls 2012 Championships (Flickr link right there).  They were held on April 28th at Chaifetz Arena in Saint Louis, MO.  It was a notable night for many reasons and I am glad that I was able to be there for the bouts.

March 2012 Photo Links

March was a bit busy. A trip to Cincinnati, the start of the GateKeepers season, a local bout, and a birthday (not pictured here).

I did miss one ARRG bout; they were playing against Ohio Roller Girls the same morning that the Rookie Rivals played in Cincinnati.  I opted to save some extra driving and give the rookies some photo help. Continue reading

February 2012 photo links

How about some links from February?  That’d be amazeballs.  Speaking of amazeballs, go buy something from B-Train so she can afford to keep hiring interns to write funny blog posts.

Turns out February was a bit of a breather.  Things pick up again in March with the start of the GateKeepers local season as well as ARRG’s travel season kicking into full swing.
